The Curriculum:
Saint Andrew’s Choristers will use an approachable curriculum using both our own methods along and a traditional curriculum published by the Royal School of Church Music called Voice for Life. These workbooks along with training from Saint Andrew’s will help young people gain vocal, choral, singing, music theory and life skills. They will immerse themselves in a comfortable way in the world of sacred music, cultivate teamwork skills, and foster grown with fellow choristers.
Who can be in a chorister program:
3rd-12th graders, regardless of musical background. You do not have to be a member of Saint Andrew’s and we hope to reach our neighbors in Glen Iris through this great program.
When do choristers meet and when do they sing in church?
At the beginning of this new journey, choristers will begin attending regular rehearsals on Wednesdays beginning in April. This initial time serves as a way to get used to singing with each other and develop some abilities such as: singing the melodies of hymns, learning how to sing the melody of Anglican Chant, and an anthem or two as well. Then when the Parish Choir returns to singing in full in the fall, choristers will join the parish choir for Rally Day and Evensong and sing from then on at the second Sunday of each month. Chorister rehearsals will be at 5:45 pm on Wednesday and last until 6:20 pm, on the Wednesdays preceding Sunday’s chorister sing they will stay for the first 30 minutes of the parish choir’s rehearsal to sing with the adults. Sunday morning call times are at 9:15 am.
