All Saints' Day & All Souls' Day

Two of the most important observances of the Christian calendar are coming up.

The Feast of All Saints

6:30 pm - Solemn High Mass (Rite I) with Procession and Station at the Font

On Friday, November 1, the Feast of All Saints invites us to celebrate the great cloud of witnesses—the saints of every age, both renowned and forgotten, whose lives reflect the light of Christ. Across time, God’s people remain bound together in a fellowship that cannot be broken. We honor not only the celebrated saints of history, but also those whose names we may never know. We give thanks for the saints of old and for those we encounter in the everyday moments of life—in our workplaces, at the grocery store, in our neighborhoods, churches, and schools. In each of them, the presence of Christ shines forth, reminding us that sainthood is found in faithful, ordinary lives.

All Souls' Day

6:30 pm - Solemn Mass of Requiem (Rite I)

Each year on All Souls’ Day the Church commemorates the faithful departed who have died in the living hope of Christ's resurrection. We remember them before God, acclaim the saving work of Christ, and bid light perpetual shine upon them.

We intercede for our loved ones and friends who now rest in his eternal care, and we pray that, united with them in the communion of saints—upheld by their prayers, inspired by their witness, and bound together in the life of Christ—we, too, may be counted among those who share in the everlasting inheritance of the saints in light, the fullness of redemption made known through Christ’s victory over death.

Saint Andrew’s will observe its annual All Souls’ requiem mass at 6:30 pm on Saturday, November 2. This service is commended especially to those whose loved ones died since November last year, and we'll offer special intentions for the 2024 victims of gun violence in Birmingham.

You are invited to submit the names of all those for whom you wish the church to pray. Forward names to Fr. Peter Helman (rector@standrewsbham.org).

Everyone gathered will have an opportunity to come forward, light candles for their loved ones, and place them upon the Mary Chapel altar. The service will conclude with a candlelit procession to the Garden Columbarium for prayers for our departed parishioners and friends.
