The Feast of the Assumption

Please join us this Thursday, August 15 at 6:30 pm as we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary.

Today the Western Church honors Saint Mary's assumption, or the ascent of her body and soul into heaven at the end of her life. The Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches celebrate August 15 as the Feast of the Dormition, or Falling Asleep, of the Mother of God. In every case, the Church gathers to honor Mary the Mother of God, the God-bearer, who is spiritual mother to all who believe, guiding and supporting us in our journey toward heaven.

A Collect for the Feast of the Assumption

"O God, you have taken to yourself the blessed Virgin Mary, mother of your incarnate Son: Grant that we, who have been redeemed by his blood, may share with her the glory of your eternal kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen." (The Book of Common Prayer, pg. 243)
