Choral Evensong
Make plans to attend this month’s offering of Choral Evensong by the parish choir on Sunday, November 10th at 5:30 pm with an organ prelude by Millicent Hawthorne at 5:15 pm. A reception of wine and cheese will follow the service.
As part of our organ prelude series, we warmly welcome Samford Student Millicent Hawthorne to play at the November offering of Choral Evensong. She will play Bach’s Trio Sonata No. 1 in Eb major (BMV 525). She will serve as organist at Evensong which will include Joanna Forbes L’Estrange’s setting of the evening canticles, Psalm 19 (chant by Charles Fredrick South), and Ness Beck’s arrangement of Lord, here am I.
Millicent Hawthorne is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and is completing a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance at Samford University. She is currently studying with Dr. Fred Teardo and is the assistant organist to Dr. Lester Seigel at Canterbury United Methodist Church. In October 2024, Millicent performed the Maestoso movement of the Saint-Saens Organ Symphony with the Samford Orchestra. In April, she performed at the 2024 American Guild of Organists Student Recital in Reid Chapel. In October 2023, she performed in a masterclass with Philippe Lefebvre, one of the organist titulars at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Millicent in the 2023 and 2024 recipient of the Dawson Organ Scholarship.
